The Snapology Approach
Snapology’s mission is to provide children an opportunity to engage in “playful learning” activities that will stimulate their creativity and spark an interest in learning. Our activities are designed to reinforce the core competencies and curricula being taught at each grade level. Research has shown that many of children’s best learning experiences come when they are engaged not simply in interacting with materials but in designing, creating, and inventing with them. Our activities offer students an environment where they are encouraged to create and interact with materials and technology enabling them to explore solutions through hands-on “playful” learning. Snapology instructors all have current criminal background checks and many are certified teachers.
Developing Engineers
Developing Engineers (Mechanical Engineering): This Snapology program gives students the tools they need to understand mechanical movement through the foundations of simple machines, physics, and engineering design. Utilizing LEGO® bricks, they will see moving parts up-close as they follow instructions to build various machines, then use the models to develop new design ideas, test out physics concepts, and even play games with their partners and classmates. Whether they are the creative-constructive type or prefer the inquisitive-deconstructive way of learning, this program is sure to spark their interests! [Grades 1-3]
Amusement Park Adventures
Amusement Park Adventures (Mechanical Engineering): Children love going to amusement parks to experience the variety of fast, dropping, and spinning rides, but most haven’t thought or learned about the science that goes into building those rides and the people who are responsible for designing them. In this Snapology class, students will become mechanical engineers of their own LEGO® brick amusement park rides and will learn the core physics and engineering concepts used to make a ride thrilling. Rides will then come to life with LEGO® power hubs and electric motors! [Grades 1-3]
Pokemania
Pokemania (STEAM): In Snapology’s Pokémania class, students will explore the Pokémon world and practice their Pokémon training skills! Using loose LEGO® bricks, they will create their own Poké balls, training gyms, unique battles, and even their very own generation of Pokémon. Students will also explore some real-world science as they examine the habitats, characteristics, and needs of different Pokémon. They will do more than catch ‘em all, they will build and examine them all very closely and have a blast doing so!
Brick City
Brick City (STEAM): In this course, students will take their architectural skills to new heights as they practice city planning and the engineering design process. Campers are challenged to work together in teams and use LEGO® bricks to create the different buildings, attractions, vehicles, and architectural elements of a fully functioning city. Police cars, Life-Flight choppers, bridges, parks, hospitals, schools – it will all need to be thoughtfully and creatively built before time runs out! [Grades 2-4]
