Ultimate Frisbee is a non-contact team sport. It is a fun and exciting sport that blends the athleticism of soccer, the strategy and throwing/catching skills of football, and the teamwork of basketball. Points are scored by passing the disc downfield to a teammate in the opposing end zone. Players must not take steps while holding the disc, and interceptions, incomplete passes, and passes out of bounds are turnovers. The sport was invented in the late 1960's and is now played in more than 42 countries. In 2012, there were 5.1 million ultimate players in the US. Ultimate is a life-long sport and there are many opportunities to play in college or as an adult. In Westborough, the Recreation Department sponsors a middle school (grades 5-8) team and the High School has an Ultimate Frisbee Club. Both teams practice in the spring and fall seasons and compete against other towns in the area. Both teams welcome boys and girls and are open to beginners. The Recreation Department also partners with volunteers throughout the year to offer open ultimate frisbee play.
